Welcome aboard all you new and seasoned pot users! Instant Pot that is! Though the craze has been ongoing for a few years, Instant Pot mania peaked this past holiday season.
Whether you’ve owned an electric pressure cooker for years, jumped on board during Amazon’s Prime Days or received one under the tree this year, I hope you enjoy our website and community on Facebook for fun experiments and useful information surrounding the Instant Pot.
Most people have that friend or relative that loves using their stove-top pressure cooker. And while it does produce lovely dishes, I have always been quite afraid to use a stove-top pressure cooker! If you were like me, you were always warned to stay away or it may explode – regardless if it’s true or not.
I took advantage of Amazon’s Prime Day sale in July 2016, the first time the Instant Pot DUO60 7 in 1 cooker was featured in Canada around $89.99. It still seemed like a lot of money to spend on an appliance I was incredibly afraid of and didn’t know if I’d use it. My favorite recipe blog, Budget Bytes, had featured an article on chicken legs in the Instant Pot that same day. Lucky for me, Beth from Budget Bytes was willing to answer my questions to ease my fears on her Facebook post and I decide to take a leap of Instant Pot faith.
It arrived within a couple of days, and I pulled the behemoth out of the box wondering what in the world to do. I carefully read the manual probably 3 or 4 times, looked up online for more manuals to read, visited all the websites they suggested going to…. But I was still afraid of it. Budget Bytes had a great step by step recipe for chicken and rice, so I figured that’d be a great place to start.
But as I soldiered on and closely followed the recipe , in front of my eyes this amazing dish came together. It was amazing how easy and delicious it was! Full disclosure – I rushed my young children into another room and I hid behind a wall peeking into the kitchen as my husband performed a quick pressure release. The rush of steam was frightening at first!
Throughout the week I continued making simple dishes like hard boiled eggs, macaroni and cheese, potato salad. And that was it, I was officially hooked! Soon I finally learned that the Instant Pot was a safe and quick method to cook great meals for my family, and almost eliminated the need to take out or delivery on a busy (or lazy) evening. My husband, Greg, joined me in experimenting with the Instant Pot and we’ve since created hundreds of delicious recipes over the past few years.
Since the purchase of my first Instant Pot DUO60 7 in 1, my family has gifted me the Instant Pot DUO80 7 in 1 and the Instant Pot DUO Mini 3 qt. And we use at least one of them daily! And though we may be focused on Instant Pot, all types of pressure cookers are welcomed here. Our experience is only with the Instant Pot, but we would love to hear your experiences with other brands.
Almost two years of owning an Instant Pot has certainly had its trial and tribulations. Producing yummy food for my family and friends has been so much fun. What’s even better is that the Instant Pot has allowed me to reconnect with friends and family through sharing recipes and experiences. Please join us and follow along our journey of creating delicious recipes Fresh from the Pot!
